DRY WINTER IN WAIROA

LAKE WAIKAREMOANA VERY LOW,. Press Association.

WAIROA, July 17,

Lake Waikaremoana is still remarkably low owing to the unprecedented dry winter. A relic of Colonel Herricks’s abortive expedition after Te Kooti in 1870 is clearly visible in the shape of ono of the boats sunk to prevent the enemy getting them. The water is so low that the bottom of the lake can be reached with an eighteenfeet oar.
