Dr McArthur, S.M., field an inquest yesterday afternoon on the body of George Flint, a teamster on Mr Barton’s Pirinot station, Wairarapa. Dr J. Ewart stated that deceased consulted hi mon Monday last week about varicose veins in his legs. He saw him twice during the week. Deceased entered a private hospital on Saturday -with a view to being operated upon on Monday. From the time Dr Hogg began to admin.ster an anaesthetic (deceased began to struggle and became blue in the face, and stopped breathing. Witness and Dr Hogg performed artific.al respiration, and gave him injections of strychnine and ether. Ho seemed to recover and breathed normally, occasionally, for about ten minutes. After that he failed to respond to the treatment and expired. Three years ago witness attended him at the same hospital for about three weeks for strained heart. He was very iil at the time, but got quite well. Witness examined his heart on three occasions last week and found nothing wrong with it. The cause of death was failure of the heart’s action brought about by struggling while under an anaesthetic. The coroner returned a verdict accordingly.
