It was reported that at the AthleticMelrose junior football match on Saturday the Linesman hoisted his flag when the bail went out of play. T‘hv referee (Mr H. G. Shakes) abided by the linesman's decision, but a spectator, presumably a Melrose supporter, .-untradictcd tho decision, and requested tho referee to meet him after the match. This he did, and the spectator severely dealt with him, inflicting injuries to the referee's lip which necessitated several stitches.
