At the criminal sittings of the Supreme Court to-dav. before Mr Justice Cooper, Henry White, a young native, who had pleaded guilty at Tokomaru Bay to stealing a horse, was sentenced to two years’ hard labour. The prisoner had a bad record, having been

admitted ,to probation, for horse-steal-ing at Auckland in February last, and had also served terms of three mouths and six months on other charges. John Alexander Munroe, charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, was acquitted, as was also Nuia Makaoro, on a charge of horsestealing.
