ROUGH RUGBY
HEATED DISCUSSION BY OTAGO UNION. Frees Association. DUNEDIN, June 16. A heated discussion took place at a meeting of the Committee of the Otago Rugby Union to-night concerning allegations of. rough play in the Al-hambra-Kaikorai senior match on Saturday. The question was introduced by a report from the referee, Mr Dowland, who had ordered Choyce, of the Alhambra team, off the field on a charge of striking H. McDonald, of Kaikorai. Mr White then referred to the roughness of the play. The chairman, Mr Harris, who was not present at the match, said he had been deluged with deputations that morning, and, from what ho could gather, the play had been unnecessarily rough. From what he had been told the referee would have been justified in closing the game. Members of the committee who were at the match said that the play was unnecessarily rough, but stated their inability to give the names of players concerned. It was decided to request the captain mid deputy-captain of the Alhambru team, and the captain and Dryden of Kaikorai, a member of the committee of each club, the referee, and Choyce. to attend the next meeting.
