A FOOTBALLER’S DEATH
“RESULT OF INJURIES RECEIVED.’’ Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. An inquest was held this afternoon on 4 the body of Samuel Plimsoll, a nineteen-year-old footballer, who died at the hospital yesterday as a result of an injury received in the Boys High School, Christchurch B President’s Cup match on Saturday. Patrick Leo Madden, captain, of the Christchurch President’s B team, said that at the time of the accident deceased was playing in the forwards. There was no rough play at all. In the first spell witness went to collar one of the High School team, and deceased collared him at the same time. Witness received a slight impact on the side of his head from deceased’s head. It dazed witness for a moment. Deceased iay down for four •or five seconds and seemed to be in pain, but got up and the game was resumed. Deceased played all through the second spell. Francis L. Scott, medical superintendent of the hospital, diagnosed the case as one probably of cerebral hemorrhage, but he was unablo to state the cause of death beyond the fact that there was increased intracranial tension. The coroner recorded a verdict that deceased died as the result of injuries received while playing in a football match on Saturday.
