The shoal appeared to extend in an east and direction, and was well out to seaward of the bar, and in a position where the chart shows deep water. Owing to the unexpected discovery and tho speed ot tho vessel at the time, there was no time to take soundings before tho vessel -bad crossed over tho patch, but tho bottom appeared to bo sand, which was distinctly seen- A rough estimation would give three to four fathoms on tho shoal at low water. This position is well out to sea, and has no connection with Hdfcianga bar, although, quite possibly, the shoal has been formed through the agency of the north spit. Tho well-known New Zealand trader Ihumata is, like the s.s. Joan Craig, to. make a trip out of her regular business. The arrangement agreed upon is for her to load coal at Newcastle for Noumea.
