Established twenty years. 199, LAMBTON QUAY. The Trained Nurses' Association held a bridge party and dance in the new Nurses’ Hostel, Willis street, on Wednesday evening last. Folding doors between the clnbroom and diningroom were thrown open to make one large ballroom, and supper was served in the kitchen. Beautiful flowers were everywhere used in decoration. Among those present were Mrs Wilford and Mrs W. Young, who were mainly responsible for the evening’s arrangements; Dr Young (president of the Trained Nurses’ Association), Miss Dunlop (secretary), Dr and Mrs Collins, Dr and Mrs Tolhurst, Dr Gilmer, Dr Parker, Dr and Mrs White, Dr and Mrs Holmes, Mrs McKenzie, Mrs Kendal (a former president of the association), Miss Payne, Miss A. McLean, and many of the sisters from the Nurses’ Home. A great many of the flowers were sent by Dr Hassell, from Porirna. The Rev. Dr Clifford, addressing the annual assembly of the Free Church Council, protested against the extravagance of the rich in these days of sweated labour, and urged that a minimum wage should bo secured by Act of Parliament, if there was.no other means of securing that end.
