The following report dated February 20th has been received from the manager of the Swastika Gold Mines: —'T harp much pleasure in reporting that a large general sample of the stone from the face, about 80ft in from the outcroo on No. 6 (that is the Big Beef) assayed at the Westport School of Mines 2oa 12dwt Sgr per ton, in value AlO Se per ton.As advised, this reef has been steadily improving as we crossed from the footwall to the hanging-wall and this assay is a most convincing proof. I do not think there' is such a large body of stone carrying equal value on this coast. We have been delayed in development work on account of two of the men being on the sick list, and so far have been unable to replace them-. All available storage room at the tunnel month got blocked with stone, and the horse we depended on for haulage oould not be obtained. However, we got another one a week, later, and I hope to be on tune with ai crushing of 20 to 25 tons by the end of) the month. I trust to make a good bat-, tery return, although there, will not bej very much of the stone as assayed, above/' . COMMERCIAL CABLES HIGH COMMISSIONER'S ‘REPORT.
