MORE LIGHT ON “REFORM.”

(To the Editor “N.Z. Times.”) Sir, During the last and preceding elections the Tory press, and especially that organ known as the “‘Squatters’ Journal,” shouted themselves, ihoarse at the Ward Government, and, Liberal party about “spoils to the victors,” “Tammanyism,” “Corruption, - ' etc., and never lost an opportunity of telling the people what they would reveal when they got a squint into those wonderful pigeon holes. But I suppose that which would be considered a heinous crime in the Liberals is a virtue in the Reform party. A case came under my notice the other ■day (and I got it from the most reliable authority) where an ardent supporter of the self-styled “Reform party” sold to the Massey Government a section in Stratford.. This section stands on the books of the Stratford Borough Council at the unimproved value of £2O0 —capital value ,£3OO. The Massey Government bought this section, and paid (or are going to pay) to this most enthusiastic member of their craft the extortionate price tof £I2OO, when not more than six months ago its own valuer valued it at £2OO. Why, the Liberal Government, in its most plunging mood, never did anything quite so barefaced as this! And yet nothing is .said in the Tory press or “squatters’ journal” about “spoils to the victors.” Where is the man with the muckrake, oh Shades of Tammany ? is this “Reform” or “Spoils” ?—I am, etc., ANTI-REFORM. Stratford, February 21st.
