BOWLING
WELLINGTON CENTRE. Tho Wellington Centre ooimrnttee met last evening, Mr Dimook presiding. Tie resignation of the secretory (Mr CliurohwaM) was accepted with regret. Members eulogised Mr Churchwards past services. It was decided that to substantial presentation be made to Mr Churchward. The delegatee present and all the secretaries of affiliated clubs were appoint a presentation committee, to go into tho matter., ~ It was decided, on the motion of Mi Cox (Karori), that a pairs tournament be held on Easter Saturday and Monday, and that the moneys received m entrance fees be paid over to the citizens’ carnival was elected secretary pro tern. ______ EASTBOURNE CLUB. The Eastbourne Bowling Club was favoured with splendid weather on Saturday night for its carnival. An absolute calm prevailed, and the pretty bowling green ton tne property of Mr W. E. Sbortt) looked charming, lighted brilliantly as it was with fairy lamps, Chinese lanterns, acetylene gas. and the new and powennl "lierona'' light, the latter calling for much admiration from the 20b people who were present at the function. Dancing was indulged in on tho croquet lawn, and bowls were played by mixed teams of ladies and gentlemen; besides winch the patrons were treated to an open-air conceit of considerable merit. At 10 p.m. supper was served in a largo marquee on the lawn, and ail present voted it one of the most successful functions ever held in this favourite seaside resort. During the evening the president (Mr Sanson) welcomed the visitors, and expressed tiie pleasure the club fell at seeing so many happy faces. Mr W. P. Shortt# who also extended a welcome, thanked the ladies for their splendid work in tho club's behalf in the past, and hoped they would continue to help them with their new venture. They had acquired a properly from Dr Mackenzie, and it was considered one of the most beautiful spots in the bay. During the carnival Messrs i*. Sicvers, i\ Downes, and E. B. Shortt sang, Mr Marcus Marks told stories, and the dance music wan plaved by Miss Marks and Mr W. Morris. The Eastbourne Club expects to have its now green ready next year. This
will depend upon the financial support given the club. Debentures aro being issued, and practically ail the members have taken up parcels of them. Ike present membership of the club is about thirty. This restricted membership was inevitable, seeing that the cl\ib could provide only two rinks for players. Ihe new green will bo situated near the Kona Bay wharf, on land that is being acquired from Dr Mackenzie, It lies at the base of the hill, but takes in, for the grounds and pavilion site, a strip of the bush-clad rise which commands a lovely view of the whole harbour. The club has taken the first opportunity of obtaining the land, but will proceed with the green formation and improvements until the financial prospect is sufficiently good to warrant the undertaking. The members are, however, anxious to see the new green ready for nest season. SEATOUN v. ’EY ALL BAY.
