SMOKING IN SOCIETY

The prejudice against v, omen who smoke is now only shared by the lowermiddle class. It is impossible for women to smoke at the ordinary teasboo or cheap restaurant, but at all the fashionable hotels one finds that the woman who does not indulge in a cigarette after meals is the eception, and the other sort the rule. Not so very long ago lists of women who smoked used occasionally to bo published in society papers. At the present moment it would be far easier to give a list of the women who do not. Several fashionable costumiers now place matches and cigarettes in their waitingrooms, and have ash-trays scattered everywhere.
