Mrs H. Bethune is visiting in tho South Island. Mr and Mrs Isaacs have returned from a stay at Day’s Bay House. Mrs and Miss Thornton are back at Wellington terrace from Miramar. Dr and Mrs Tolhurst and Dr and Mrs Webster are in AVanganui for the Doctors’ Conference. Mrs Runnerschrum, who has been spending a few days with her sister, Miss Downes, on Wellington terrace, returned to AVanganui on Saturday. Mrs Firth has been elected captain of the ladies’ committee of the Miramar Golf Club, and Miss Gavin was reelected secretary for this year. Miss Tudor Jones, who has come from Auckland in order to be bridesmaid at Miss Meadowcroft’s wedding, is the guest of Mrs Meaciowcroft, in Mount street. Tho engagements are announced of ATi.cs, Thirza Barker, eldest daughter of Mrs AV. Barker, Tinakori road, to Mr Hugo, Bramley, of Newtown, and of Miss Elsie Geary to Mr Frederick H. Barker. The AA r omen*s Social and Political Reform League holds a meeting next Monday night, when Miss Newcombe and Miss Hodge, representatives lof the Australian and New Zealand Women Voters’ Association in London, will address the members. On Saturday afternoon their Excellencies the Governor and the Countess of Liverpool wont to the Roseneath school, to unfurl there the flag, the Royal Standard of Scotland, which was sent to the school from the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, in Scotland. A very large number of guests were present, including, of course, the parents and friends of the children, also the members of the school committee and their friends, and the teaching staff. The Earl of Liverpool made a speech on the occasion, and the chairman of the school committee and the headmaster received their Excellencies. Lady Liverpool wore a dark coat and skirt, with a large black tulle bow at the throat, and a black hat.
