TRAINING AT TRENTHAM

There have not been many arrivals at Trentham as yet, and such work as lias been got through has not been of a very strenuous nature, owing to tho fact that most of the horses have had plcntv of racing, so that a gallop or two Ls ail that is necessary to tune them up to the right pitch. A few of tho Cup candidates were working yesterday morning, and they naturally came in for most attention. The grey horse Mira moved nicely over a round of tho tan. It is evident that the racing he got during tho holiday meetings did tho son of Boult no harm for he looks very fit. Dearest was sent along over ten furlongs on tho grass, going off with a great burst, hut she did not finish too well. Merrivoma went rather short in an easy task on tho tan, but the Mcrriweo mare’s action when going at half-paco has never gained her any friends. Undecided, who still looks rather on the big side, ran a smart seven furlongs, moving freely throughout. Ceylon was not extended in her work on the tan, and she looks better than was the case at Awapuni. Sea Queen, going at top, ran seven furlongs in a tick under Imin 32sec, finishing fairly well. Tho southerner, My Lawyer, strode over a mile and a quarter at his best. Ho appears particularly well, but the way he finished suggests that the Cup may prove rather far for him. Of the other horses there were affair number out yesterday. Nauxnai 1 did easy work on the tan, as did Immor and Prosper. A similar task was allotted Semaphore and Obligant. Secret Link ran five furlongs, going freely. Salzburg sprinted over three furlongs. Styx skipped five furlongs, as did Mowbray, the latter going very nicely. Peggy's task was a rousing six furlongs, run in under Imin 19sec. Others who wore out doing easy work were Mediterranean, Stepney, Simila, St. Felix, Pukerua. Orosbie. Peg, Abercoed, War Queen, Alofa, Lady Kucheran, and tho hurdlers Knutsford and Mahinawa, JOCKEY’S LICENSE WITHDRAWN Press Association. DUNEDIN, January 16. At a meeting of the Dunedin District Committee to-day the action of tho Lake County Jockey Club in fining J. Beale £3 was endorsed, and it was decided to increase the sentence by the withdrawal of the jockey’s license.
