EDITED BY “ZEALANDIA.” SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mr and Mrs Eichclbaum have gone for a holiday to Auckland. .Lady Stout and Miss Stout have returned from, a visit to Dunedin. Mrs Cachemaillo is the guest of Mrs H. Stocker, New Plymouth. Dr and Mrs Hardwicko Smith leave on Saturday on a visit to England.

Miss Reeves, of Nelson, who has been staying with Mr J. Kennedy for a fortnight, leaves for home on Thursday.

Mrs J. C. Griffiths, of Auckland is staying with Mr and Mrs C. l airbrother, at Dalefield. Mrs Williamson (Palmerston North) s flaying with her mother, Mrs Nicholas Reid, in Burnell avenue.

Mr awd Mrs John Abbott and their family leave next month for a trip to the Old Country.

Mr and Mrs H. P. Von Haast are returning to Wellington by the Corinthic, duo here about January 21st.

Mr C. H. Moreland (of Christchurch) and Mrs and Miss Dalrymple (of the Kangitikei) are passengers by the Remuera, due here on February 3rd.

Visitors staying at the Grand include: Mrs Pope and Miss Dalton (Palmerston North), Mrs Logan (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs Baird Cotterill (Hastings). Mr and Mrs Pemberton (Sydney), and Miss Willis (Wanganui). Mrs and the Misses Peat, who are at present touring at Home, spent Christmas indulging in winter sports in Switzerland. They leave on the _ Arawa for Australia next month, and will stay there until the end of ApriL Mrs and Miss West have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs West's daughter, Mrs Taylor, and Mr Taylor, who have been spending a few weeks at Muritai, returned last night to Christchurch. Guests at the Hotel Cecil include: Mrs Townsend. Mrs Matthews (Palmerston North), Mr and Mrs Baxter (Levin), Mr and Mrs Gray, Mr and Mrs Hirsh (Wanganui), Mrs Murray Hobbs (Christchurch), and Mr and Mrs Shadwell (England).

Staying at the Hotel Windsor there are; Miss E. Moore (Gisborne), Mrs M. E. Maclean and Miss M. Williams (Napier), Mr and Mrs Soldi (Auckland), Mr and Mrs A, H. Powell (Palmerston North), Mr and Mrs J. Banner (Auckland), and Mr and Miss Mcßean (Picton).

At a matinee in aid of the Actresses’ Franchise League at the Lyceum Theatre, London, recently. Miss Constance MoAdtuu, a New Zealand lady (better known.. in literary circles as “Constance Clyde’.’) made a hit with - a short play entitled “Mr Wilkinson’s Widow," which was very favourably reviewed.

Miss Irene Ainsley, the Auckland singer, has been accorded very complimentary notices from the press for her singing with the OTlara Opera Company, which, after a season at the Crystal Palace, London, had a satisfactory tour in Ireland. Miss Ainsley took the role of "Carmen" at very short notice in the place of Madam Doris Woodall, and was so successful that Mr O’Mara decided she should play the port entirely after Christmas.
