EVANS’S DEATH
A WOAIAN’S ACCOUNT OF THE SHOOTING. Press Association. WAUTI, Eeoember 5. Helen Hose Sorronsen, wife of a striker wire went to gaol. in her evidence at the inquiry into tire death of Frederick Evans, Baidahe Was in tire Union Hall at the time of the shooting. , She was under the impression that the first shot came from outside, but she, saw smoke in the passage. ' She'ran out to the hack of tee building. " She was only tour yards from Wade,.,andL Evans when the shot was fired. It was not fired till after Evans had been batoned by the constable, 'ihe constable was shot by somebody behind him. '.She did not know who fired the shot and could not recall the name or description of anyone present at the time of the shooting except Evans. She saw no revolvers. One of the arbitrationists hod something in his hand, but she did not know what it was. She said she was a strong federationist. The witness was cross-examined by Mr J. 11. Lundon, appearing on behalf of the relatives of Evans. Witness reiterated that the constable was not shot by E-vans, though she did not see the workers with, revolvers. She was sure the shot was fired from a group of workers near by. She was very nervous as a result of the shootings at the hall, but not over excited. The proceedings are likely to last same days.
