OTAKI NOTES
From Our Own Correspondent. December 4. Inspector Ellison paid an official visit to Otaki to-day, and expressed himself pleased at the condition of affairs. Several residents entered for the competitions to be held at Pahiatua, but owing to unforeseen circumstances are unable to fulfil their engagements. Dr Paterson, who lias been acting as locum tenons for Dr Kuthwaite, who went on a visit to England with Mrs Huthwaite, leaves here on Afonday for Pahiatua, where ho has bought the practice of Dr Baird, the latter intending to take up practice in the Otago district. Dr Huthwaite is not expected back till Christmas, but the vacancy will be filled by a Wellington medico, A Wellington angler, who spent Sunday in “whipping" the Otaki river, caught some 151 b of fine trout, the largest being from 31b to 51b. Constable Satberley leaves shortly, for Auckland, having been granted his annual leave. . . ;
It is understood that the Acclimatisation Society is bringing an action against a prominent business man in the district for polluting the river.
