AFFAIRS AT WAIHI
A PICKET PUNISHED. WOMEN STILL USE OFFENSIVE TACTICS. Special to tire “Times.” WAIHI, October 29. Yesterday being a bank holiday strike pay was dispensed to-day, and as a result a considerable amount ol shopping was done at the union’s store by tho wives of _ the strikers. Tho usual demonstration was in evidence this afternoon when the brakes containing workers emerged in tho main street. Without the aid of th© women these demonstrations would now fall very flat indeed. A “ MIX-UP.” A “mix-up” took place at Waikine yesterday afternoon between a strike picket and on© of tho workers. The former referred to tho latter as, a “scab,” with the result that the picket came in for a very bad time, the pair being eventually parted. ANOTHER “MASS ” MEETING. A mass meeting of strikers was held this morning, there being about 250 present. It is understood that only routine business was transacted. Messrs Semple and Webb are expected to visit Waibi this week; and will probably remain a few days. The Talisman min© at Karangahake resumes work to-morrow morning now that coal supplies from Huntly are again available.
