Thomas Float, a resident of Lower flutt,- had the misfortune to receive a compound comminuted fracture of the ieg yesterday afternoon, through being thrown out of a firecart at Petone. Fleet, who is an employee of the Hutt Borough Council, and a member of the Hutt Fire Brigade, was toting part in the competitions at Petone, and during the afternoon accompanied driver Corberry to water the brigade horses. The cart on which they were riding, being light, leaned over when negotiating a street comer, and a wheel came in contact with the kerb. Both men were thrown out. Carberry was injured about tbo face.
