Captain Collins, pilot at Nelson, who is on holiday leave, arrived at Wel.ington by the Monowai yesterday from souui. The Japanese cargo steamer was to have left Japan about Saturday last for Now Zealand ports. A heavy sea on the Greymouth bar on Saturday was delaying the Taviuni outside in the roadstead and the Koonya inside port. Mr J. Bruce, late chief officer of toe Taviuni, has gone to Dunedin for orders. The Waimea, due at Nelson on Friday for Onehunga, is to lay up at the former oort for overhaul. Captain J. G. Watson, of the Pateena, who has been to Dunedin for orders, returned bv the Maori yesterday morning to rejoin the Pateena, The Otaki, from London via Capetown, is due at Auckland to-day or to-morrow. The vessel ha© explosives in addition to general cargo. She is due hero next week. The cargo steamer Brisbane, due at Wellington to-day fropa Newt, astle, is to berth at the Railway wharf to discharge her cargo of coal. This week tho Mapourika will not get awav for Nelson and west Coast until Wednesday instead of to-morrow. Mr J. Parry, late third officer of the Waipori, who recently resigned from the Union Company’s service, is proceeding to Sydney by the Manuka. The Whangapc. now discharging the remainder of her timber cargo from Kaipara at Newcastle, is to load coal at Newcastle for Auckland. The Maoriland Company’s steamer Lauderdale is to leave Newcastle shortly with a load of coal for Napier and Tokomaru Bay. Tiic Arawa arrived at Wellington yesterday morning from Auckland and berthed at the Glasgow wharf to complete Homeward loading. She is to sail at noon on Thursday for London. , The Holmdale is to sail from Wellington to-morrow for Kaipara to load for Wellington.

The Vacuum Oil Company has chartered the steamers Capo Finisterre, 4380 tons, and Lodorer, 3207 tons, to load case oil at New York for Now Zealand. Word was received yesterday that the Wellington trawler Energy was at Blenheim. She is due here to-morrow or on, Wednesday, The departure of the Haupiri from New Plymouth for Wellington has been postponed until to-day. She is, due here tomorrow morning and will sail at midnight to-morrow for Picton and Onehunga. Tho ketch Lizzie Taylor attempted to leave Wellington at 8.15 a.m. on Saturday for Havelock, but at 9.45 a.m. she anchor in Worser Bay. The Corinna, which is bringing dairy produce from Onehunga and New Ply. mouth for transhipment to the Arawa, is not expected at Wellington until Wednesday. She will leave here at noon on Thursday for southern ports. As to-day is a public holiday (Labor Day), tho Union Company's offices for passenger booking only will be open from 9 o'clock till 10 o’clock this morning. The Ilinemoa, having replenished her provisions at Nelson on Friday evening, sailed again for Kahuranei Point lighthouse to await a favourable opportunity to land there. The Surrey, from Liverpool, left Auckland at 6.15 a.m. on Saturday for Wellington, where she will berth this evening at bhie Taranaki street wharf to discharge 2500 tons of cargo. The vessel is to sail on Friday evening for Lyttelton and Dunedin with remainder of cargo. The coastal steamer Storm arrived at Wollincton last evening from Lyttelton, and will sail to-morrow for Picton and •Wanganui. Cantain Sewell, who went Home on behalf of the Gisborne Sheep Fanners' Company to look for a suilaole tug. has succeeded, and has been able to select a boat which he recommends as highly suitable for the purposes of the port. The vessel has a length of 90 feet, beam 20 feet, -and draught 10 feet, the indicated horse-power a new boat, and will be specially equipped with salvage and fire gear for any emergency when required on the coast.
