FRUIT AND PRODUCE

WELLINGTON HAEKETS. An excellent inquiry continues to result for both choice dessert and cooking apples. In fact the market on the close oi last week ha* shown a stronger tendency for locahy-grcrtvn varieties. American apples are still available and these are lacing a good outlet. Owing to the small shipment of citrus fruits to hand last week from Sydney the market at the present time for the*© lines is particularly keen, and what lew local lemons have been available have realised high rates, viz., from 9s bd to 10s fid case. Tomatoes are in-excellent demand, and any choice quality arc com. mauding extreme rates. Transhipments of Cook Island oranges and bananas arrived yesterday via Auckland. • and all choice truit, especially the oranges, realised the extreme prices. The prospects are that tor all varieties of fruits available for some little time ahead there will be a heavy demand, and correspondingly high ratee will result. Next month should see the advent of New South Wales summer fruits, and these will relieve the tension Apples, choice dessert 11s to 11s fid case, prime 9s to 10s, cookers choice 10a fid to lls fid case, prime 8s to 9s: hothouse tomatoes, choice Is 3d to Is fid * lb, prime 9d to Is; lemons, choice (locals)' 9a fid to 10s fid case. POTATOES AND ONIONS.

During the past week there has been an absolute dearth in old potatoes, and the market has kept at the high level which set in last week. The quality so late in the season is showing indifference to a certain degree, and as the season closes this, of course, will bo more marked, and It is quite likely that present values will bo superseded by higher rates. New potatoes are in excellent demand, and much heavier quantities could be handled. In fact, at the present time it docs not look as though supplies will materially increase until early next month. The inquiry for onions continues strong, and as the quality is excellent, a good distributing business is being done. Potatoes, old £9 to £9 10s ner ton, new potatoes choice large 3d to 3id per lb, prime 2d to 2Jd: onions, choice £l6 to £l6 IDs per ton. OTHER VEGETABLES.
