THE INSURANCE ACT
INCREASE IN MEDICAL BENEFITS.
LONDON, October 23,
In the House of Commons, Mr Lloyd George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, stated that the Government would increase the medical benefit, including drugs, to 8s fid. This would involve an additional annual outlay of £1,650,000.
(Received October 24, 11.6 p.m.) LOW DOM, October 24. Mr Lloyd George said that, including extras and tuberculosis treatment, the Government proposed to assure doctors of 7s per head on the insured population, and one shilling and sixpence was assigned for drugs. The extra sixpence assigned for drugs would bo added to the remuneration of. the doctors it drugs were not required. The Exchequer will defray £1,650,000 if in abnormal circumstances the central fund was to make a special grant for drugs. Sir James Barr, president of the British Medical Association, states that Mr Lloyd George’s terms form the basis of an agreement, but the problem is not entirely monetary.
