NEW PLYMOUTH NOTES

October 20. Mrs Malcolmson (Hutt) is expected this week on a visit to her sister, Mrs R-0110. Mrs Sturtovant left on Friday for a visit to Auckland. Mrs Fred. Bayly (Toko) is the guest of Mrs Wilfred Perry. Mrs Hugh Good (Stratford) is a patient in Miss Baker’s private hospital. On Friday evening Misses Bedfoid and Kirkby’s pupils held their break-ing-up dance in the Brougham street Hall, the majority of tho children wearing fancy dresses. After supper had been enjoyed, the little ones went home at 10 o’clock, and the grown-ups occupied the floor. On Friday evening Mrs A. C. Fookes gave a delightful bridge party. There were eight tables, Mrs Mills and Mrs Ward winning the prizes. The rooms were decorated with pink azalea and quantities of most lovely lilics-of-the-valley; the supper-table looked charming with its arrangement of white broom and red roses. Mrs Fookes wore ■black satin with lace ; Mrs C. Nicoll (Ashburton), pale blue crepe-de-chine; Miss Grace Fookes, cream lustre, braided; Mias Margie Fookes, black silk with tunic of fisher-net with sequin embroideries. Among the guests were: Mrs Harry Fookes, white satin veiled with black fancy net; Mrs Ashcroft (Vancouver), pink silk with lace overdress; Mrs Lysons, pink crystalline finished with lace and fringe; Mrs Alee. McDiarmid, pale blue brocade, with lace berthe; Miss Humphries. Mack silk with sequin overdress; Miss K. Humphries, white satin with overdress of sequined net; Mrs Courtney, grey charmeuse, with draped tunic of Limerick lace; Mrs Matthews, French grey charmeuse, iridiscent beaded garniture on corsage; Mrs Walker, black satin with draped tunic and fichu of Brussels lace; Mrs Hirst, mauve floral voile; Mrs Blundell, black and silver striped floral ninon over satin; Mrs Newton King, grey, satin veiled with black ninon; Mrs James Wilson, black silk with tunic of beaded net ; Mrs W. Bayly, amethyst taffetas with tunic of beaded chiffon; Mrs MillSj black velvet with. lace j Miss L. Thomson, white silk veiled with ninon; Miss Mildred Thomson, ciel blue velvet; Miss Wood, Hack and white embroidered net over silk; Mrs Wills, pink silk veiled with grey ninon. On Saturday the New Plymouth Golf Club ended the season with mixed foursomes, twenty-eight couples competing. Miss M. Glasgow and Mr Reid won with a net score of 72; Miss Dowling and Mr Bary coming second with 72J. Among the players were Mrs Glasgow, Mrs Paton, Mrs Johns, Mrs Whetter, Miss Bradbury, Miss Reid, Miss Hall, Miss Bowley, Miss Crook©, Mrs Haslam, Misses L. and S. Fitzherbert, Miss S. Bayly, Miss Stephenson, Miss Brewster, Mrs Johnston, Miss Saxton, Miss Percy Smith, Mrs Penn, Miss Webster, Mrs Kebbell, Miss Kyngdon, Messrs Standish, Bowley (3), Johns, Paton, Glasgow, Haslam, Elliott, Bain, S. Burgess, Grover, Hutchen, McCord, Honan, Anderson, Coxhead, Dempsey, Bloxam and Grant. At the conclusion of play Mr Bewley presented the prizes won during the season.
