NORTHERN RAILWAYS
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. A deputation waited on tho Minister of Public Works (Hon. W. Fraser) yesterday, with a reemest for extension of tho Kaihu Valley railway (running from Dargavillo South) from Waima to Donnelly’s crossing. Mr J. G. Coates, M.P. for Kaipara, introduced the deputation. It was urged that the suggested extension . would make tho railwav pay, and tho speakers asked that a detailed survey be made of the section of the North Auckland Main Trunk line from Kerikapuni southwards to McCarroll’s Gap. so ns to enable tho settlers in Kerikammi village to make their roads and build their shops and houses in suitable positions. In reply, the Minister expressed the view that the request for four miles of railway was not extravagant, and he promised to lav the representations before Cabinet when the Authorisation Bill came to be considered. He also thought the application for a survey was reasonable, but he pointed out that he would have difficulty in securing engineers to make it.
