A NAPIER LETTER

_ , tr , ~ , August 2. On- Wednesday afternoon the third annual exhibition of arts and crafts was held in the Village Hall. Havelock North when a largo number of people from all parts of tho district attended. Havelock is becoming renowned tor the excellence of these displays. The building was heautiful'y decorated with oil and water colours, also Eastern brocades, quaint carvings, etc The Woodford House girls had an excellent display of carving, leather and copper work, clay-modelling, book-binding, and cookery. Other exhibitors were the Na pier Technical School and Havelock School, f.ady Bussell, Mrs Holdsworth, IIKe. Malara Mesdamca Lowry, A. McLean. Handyside Ellis, noberts. Fitzherhert, Allom. Ellison E. T. Aden. Tosswill, A. Wiliams, John Nairn, Field, Warren. M. Chambers. Mlsie» .a; -r. Hamilton. Fitzrov. Masters. Ifowson, Henry, de Lisle, Miller, Fulton. PhilUns, and others. The exhibition was altogether a great success. Tho Hastings Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club hold their annual ball on Wednesday evening in tho Dri.l Hall, about 120 couples including many from Nanier and district, being present. Tho building was beautifully decorated, and Tomb’s band contributed the music. The M’s.O. were Messrs Symos. Hartshorn. V. Smith and Rainbow The following lad es were among those present:—Mrs Landels. vienx rose charmeusc, with fichu; Mrs MoKibbcn. black and r-ink. with white chiffon overdress: Mrs C. L. Gordon, cream charmeuse with gold embroidered overdress; Mrs Rainbow, black; Mrs Murray. Erencli grey satin; Mrs Coup or, pale grey charmouse; Mrs Hochfort. ciel blue satin with ninon .tunic; Mrs O. Nelson, emerald green satin; Mrs Well wood, black: Miss Russetr. emerald green with gold trimming: Miss Brathwalte,pink sat’n with ninon tunic; Mrs Hochfort,bine satin and ninon overdress; Mrs D. Shields, black; Miss Moeller, green frock; Miss Clarkson, white with blue ninon overdress: Mrs J. A. Millar black with embroidered overdress; Mrs Lewis, white satin and silver trimming; Mrs McLeod, black satin with steel embroidery: Mrs T. J. Faulkner, blue eharmeuse: Miss Luckie, primrose satin and lace. Mies Ira Ormond left for England this week to complete her schooling. . Miss Nettie Hctley returns to Napier this week after nearly two years’ absence in England. Visitors to Napier this week include Mr and Mrs T. J. C. Warren (Pukehon) and Mr and Mrs F. B. Walsh (Qwavae). Mr and Mrs Stewart and family have returned from New Plymouth to Hastings, where they will reside. Mrs W. J. GeddU returns from Auckland to-morrow. She has been attending tho golden wedding celebrations of her parents in Otahuhu. Tho Napier High School old boys have issued Invitations for their final dance of the season. Mrs J. Armstrong (Dannevirke) Is on a visit to Napier. Mr and Mrs Levien (Palmerston North) are visiting Napier. Mr J. T. Blake and the Misses Blake (Hastings) have gone on a holiday to Sydney.
