"REFORM” LAND POLICY
(To the Editor “N.Z. Times.") Sir,—l take up my paper ©very morning to see what the new Government is doing or contemplating, and I find little but an incessant clamour about ‘'Thefreehold! The freehold! Security of tenure!" and' fcer'forth. Now, what doea it all amount to? When w© get down to bedrock, Mr Editor, what does this wonderful "security of tenure" mean to mo? lam paying £IOO a year rental tor a property that cost the owner, perhaps, £SU) or £6OO, but which he will not let me have for less than £2500, This hideous tax on my earnings, this heavy toll on the income required to sup. port my family, is only -jtossiblo through an unjust system of puolio finance and public policy that strikes hard at every useful member of the community 'in order that the land monopolist may bo spared. Mr Massey’s land "policy" is to bribe the Crown tenant by giving him' the freehold at the original value, m return for his vote. And this is "reform I” I don’t really care a brass farthing whether the l.i.n. man or the renewable lease man gets the freehold or not. What I want to know is, where do I come in? —1 am, etc., WORKING FARMER August 3rd.
