HARRIERS.

WELLINGTON CLUB’S STEEPLECHASE. The Wellington Club held its steeplechase on Saturday at Trentham, the following men facing the starter: W. Press and F. Wilton scr, L. Salek Ssec, W. B. Bennett lOaec, S. McDowall, W. .Donaldson 35seo, T. J. Kerr 4Csec, W. Power 75s©c. The going, which was very heavy, rather favoured the limit men, and Power held his position for three-parts of the first lap, being then displaced by Kerr, with MeDowall and Donaldson close up. With 300 yards to go McDowall displaced Kerr, who made a game effort, but the former hafl too much in hand and won by 20 yards, Kerr second. Press third. The officials were: Mr P. Ross (judge), Mr W. Watt (starter and timekeeper), and Mr G. O'Neill (course steward). The thanks of the club are due to Mr A. G. Whyte for the use of rooms and course. Next Saturday the members will encourage their two men in the New Zealand championship, which is to bo held at Miramar. BROOKLYN CLUB. Last Saturday afternoon the Brooklyn Harriers held their usual run from the Kelbarne Tea Kiosk, and despite the unfavourable weather a muster of nineteen runners, including four' recruits of good promise, followed a course laid by R. J. Ballantyne and E. B. Smith, of about eight miles in length, which led from the kiosk, down the steps at the back of the gardens, thence as far as the Creswick road, round the back of the cemetery, then on to the road, thence home through the tunnel, via Kelburne parade. A run-in of about three-quarters of a mile was held, resulting in T. Jenkins breasting the tape first, with'G. Bristow and O. Goad In that order, with "Darky" Byrne, the scratch man. close up. Next Saturday the New Zealand crosscountry championship will be held at Miramar, and members are requested to roll up in full force. NEW SOUTH WALES CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP.
