FINED £25 OR THREE MONTHS VERDICT IN THE COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY CASE. By Telegraph—Preia Association— Copyright (Received August 1, 11 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 1. A verdict was delivered to-day in tho ease in which Sir Normund Maclaurin, a director of the Colonial Sugar Company, was charged with failing to attend a sitting of the Royal Commission on tho sugar industry when subpoenaed. The Magistrate ruled that the Commission not having been found unlawful and the defendant having failed without reasonable excuse to attend was guilty of an offence under tho Royal dminissions Act. A fino of £25 was imposed, with £320 costs, in default throe months’ imprisonment with hard labor. Twenty-one days wore allowed for payment, in view of a possible appeal. Tho cases against the other directors were adjourned for n week. Arguments in tho case had lasted thirty-eight days.
