THE MENACE OF SOCIALISM.

(To tho Editor, "N.Z. Times.”) Sir,—Things have com© to my knowledge that have caused me some trepidation. X see the thin end of the wedge of Socialism being slipped in. It is in reference to the clothing my boy has received since he was sent among the Territorials. At first there was little more than in the old volunteer days, a hat, a jacket and pants, but now he has received a great overcoat, and wo have had to have built for him a new locker There must be many pounds’ north altogether. It is sapping the selfrespect of the boy, he is beginning now to be expectant to be supplied with everything. I am afraid that while these Socialists aue pretending to bo angry with this militarism, as they call it, that is merely a subterfuge to coyer the actual thing that is being done; that is, to completely clothe, at the cost of the taxpayers, all tho male inhabitants up to a certain age. This is all very well for tho working classes, but I am sure that wo of the middle classes will have to pay far more than our share. Will you, sir, do what you can to resist this insidious Socialist iniquity,

for I am quite sure that th© workers

will not long be content with this, but their next step will bo to have all the girls clothed free of charge of themselves and at our expense.—l am, etc., MOTHER MALLOOH. August Ist.
