BOXING.
NEW ZEALAND TEAM FOR AUSTRALIA. PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, July 81. The Boxing Council at its , last meeting decided to urge the associations to encourage boxing among Territorials. In reply to a question regarding, the status of Navy men who hod competed for money prizes in Navy competitions, .the council quoted tho English ruling that such men forfeited their amateur status. The following wore selected to compete in the Australasian championships:—Bantam, J, Gunn j' feather, G. Barrj light, G. Penrose j heavy, S. Fitzsimmons. The inclusion of Penrose was partly prompted by the fact that he is at present in Australia, and is willing to go to Sydney at hia own expense. In view of the financial position of the council, it was decided to select only four representatives, but to make representations to the Northern and Otago Associations In the hope that they will be able to help the fianacee to enable Mitchell (welter), and Boreham (middle-weight) to '.be included, HANNAN v. MURPHY. A professional contest between Hannan, of Australia, and Murphy, of Wellington, has been arranged by the Wellington Association for next Wednesday evening, in the Town Hall. This- will be tho first professional bout of the season, and os both men are well and favourablyknown to the boxing fraternity the fixture should be a very attractive one. The box plan opens at Arndt's next Saturday.
