POWER TO COMPEL WITNESSES' ATTENDANCE,

In the House of Representatives Mr ft ugJ.es, Attorney-General, in moving ttie jsecond reading of a Bill to amend the Royal Commissions Act by giving stronger power, said tho Act bad proved most ineffective. The Sugar Commission had been flonted and defied. The powers of r.ho Commonwealth were found utterly futile to compel file attendance of witnesses.
