A Californian traveller reports that Francesco: Suarez, a Venezuelan, with native forces, has established control at Beni on the river Amazon, and exacts rubber from the natives by terrible atrocities.

LONDON July 22. Saurez amassed a- fabulous fortune. He subjected natives to progressive amputation and torture, and finally to decapitation. Others were manacled and left to perish from heat and starvation.
