During the past two days nearly forty vessels have arrived at and sailed from Wellington. vThe Paparoa is to sail from’ Bluff tomorrow for London.

The. Koonya, • which arrived at Wellington at 11.45 o’clock on Saturday night Irom Westport, is to leave here to-morrow for Greymouth. Mr Govsky has joined the Maori as second officer in place of Mr U. Morgan, who has gone on holiday. The Rdtoitl, which arrived back at Wellington on Saturday afternoon from New Plymouth, will lay up here. Mr T. Fogarty has joined tho Aoraugi as sixth engineer in place of Mr W. Young. Tho Holmdale Is to sail from Great Barrier Island to-day for Wellington, where sho is duo next Wednesday. Tho Oorinna will leave Wellington at 6 p.m. to-day for New Plymouth, Timaru and Dunedin.

Captain W. Collins took command of tho Warrimoo at Wellington on Saturday In place of Captain 0. Clift, who has gone on leave.

Tho barque Helen Denny,. Captain Cozens, is to leave Wellington at 7 a.m. today in tow of thp Duchc.'.i for Havelock, to load timber for Sydney. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company has decided to despatch the Kaikoura for Waitara on Wednesday for Homeward loading , Tho departure of tho Zealnndlo from Wellington for Auckland to complete her Homeward loading has been postponed till to-morrow.

Tiie Morayshire is timed to leave Wellington at 4 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton and Dunedin with remainder of cargo from Liverpool. Tho Mooraki did not leave Sydney until 1 o'clock yesterday morning for Wellington, where sho is expected to arrive on Wednesday evening. Tho Federal-Shire liner Tyrone (formerly Drayton Grange) arrived at Auckland on Saturday from Liverpool. The vessel is now expected to roach Wellington next Monday. The U.S. and A. Line chartered steamer Noidonleis (from New fork) lelt Auckland at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday for Wellington, where she is duo this evening. After discharging part cargo at Wellington the vessel will leave here on Wednesday for Nelson, Lyttelton and Dunedin with remainder. The Taviuni was to have loft Fiji on Saturday with a full load of raw sugar for Auckland.

The Kurow docked at the Calliope dock at Auckland on Friday morning for survey and overhaul. The vessel is to sail tomorrow for Suva and Lautoka. Captain Makepeace, late of the Wakanui, is now master of the Kalpara In place of Captain Cornwall. Captain Smith, of the Turakiua, is on holiday, and Captain WhiteParsons, formerly of tho Tongariro, is now on the Turakina. Tho Wairuna is to leave Auckland to-day for Limestone Island, where she will load a part cargo of cement for Sydney. The tramp steamer Elvaaton, which put in to Auckland on Friday for bunkering while en route from Antofagasta, was within 930 miles of Sydney when a terrific northerly gale compelled her to put about. Tho Noidenfels, from New York, made a call at Capetown to replenish her bunkers. On June 15th she encountered a severe north-westerly storm, which caused slight damage to her deck fittings.

CHRONOMETER RATING NOTICE,

At 1 p.m. to-day a galvanometer signal for rating chronometers will be sent from tho Observatory to the Public Telegraph Office, and to the Dominion Museum. Tho needlo will move at 1 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time, when a chronometer set to Greenwich mean time should show 13hr 30min. - Any difference will be the error of the chronometer on Greenwich mean time. At 9 p.m. correct time will also be signalled from the .Observatory by means of electric lights. A green light will be switched on at abont 8.45 p.m., a red one at about 8.65 p.m., and a white one at about 8.59 p.m., and all lights will be switched off at 9 p.m. exactly of New Zealand standard mean time. The preparatory switching on of the lights must be considered as only approximately correct, and must not be used for rating chronometers. The correct time for rating will bo given by switching off the. lights simultaneously at 9 p.m..
