AMATEUR ATHLETICS
NEW CLUB FOR BLENHEIM. Frequently during the past few years there has been some discussion as to the advisability of forming an amateur athletic club in Marlborough. Recently a member of the 'Wellington centre of the N.Z.A.A.A. visited the district, with the result that the proposal has now assumed concrete form. A' number of the leading residents and business of Blenheim have signified their intention of taking an active interest in the club, and the inquiries from prospective competitors indicate that the Blenheim Amateur Athletic Club will during *ts first season bo numerically one of the strongest clubs in the Dominion. A number of valuable trophies have already been donated for the inaugural sports meeting. Mr Walter G. Wakelin has been appointed hon. secretary pro tem.andhewill arrange with Mr A. Marryatt (president of the N.Z.A.A.A.) for a public meeting to be Jield shortly in Blenheim. At least one prominent member of the governing body will go across for the meeting to assist at the formation of the
club. At the first sports meeting a nom* ber of leading Wellington athlete* wiU compote.
