APPRECIATION OF BANK AND FILE,
In a letter to Major-General Godley, Dr Albert Martin, under date sth inst., says“l wish to congratulate you on the appearance of our Citizen Army and to show in a small way my humble appreciation of the rank ana file. Would you accept Idle enclosed donation to be given for some . proficiency in drill or attendance as you can best devise, for the sth Regiment.” Replying, Major-General Godley says “Thank you very much for your handsome contribution of five guineas to the funds of the sth Regiment, which I have had great pleasnre in forwarding to Colonel Chaytor, for transmission to Colonel Turner, with a suggestion that, in accordance with your wishes, it shall be devoted to a prize for proficiency m drill. Your letter and your practical token of sympathy with the movement, and appreciation of the results already attained, is a very great encouragement to us all.” . JL , ! _ Writing to Colonel Chaytor, officer commanding th,c Wellington Military District, General Godley says:— It will I am sure be a great encouragement to you and all in your district to find that your efforts to attain efficiency are recognised in such a practical maimer, and that the appearance of that -portion of your command which attended tie King’s Birthday review here has provoked such favourable comment.”
