THE TITANIC WRECK
ENGLISH INQUIRY WHAT WAS SEEN FROM STEAMER CALIFORNIAN, Tsy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, May 14. The Titanic wreck inquiry was. resumed to-day. Captain Lord, master of the Leyland liner Californian, deposed that lie tried to converse by Morse lamp signals with an unknown steamer, apparently between him and the Titanic, on tho night of the disaster. He was certain her white rockets were not distress signals. She was six miles off. Ho did not believe she was the Titanic. Ho admitted that if tho Marconi operator had been aroused when tho rockets were seen they would have picked up tho Titanic messages. Gibson, an apprentice, gave evidence that Air Stone, the second officer of the Californian, had looked through glasses and reported that he sa.v a vessel with a heavy list. Lord Alcrsey, president of tho court, sharply examined Mr Stone, who denied Gibsons statement. Ho said he only thought what ho had seen were distress signals after he hod heard of the disaster to the Titanic.
