"K. Uay N.” Kilbimie.—lnquiries show that no proposal for the establishment of a State sugar industry has yet been seriously entertained. No proof is so far available; that sugar beet can bo profitably grown in New Zealand, remembering the labour required in its production, as compared with the cheap labour of sugar-growing countries. The results of experiments now being conducted at -Maflra, Victoria, by Mr Q. S. Dyer, a Californian expert engaged by the Victorian Government, are awaited in New Zealand.
