BOXING
McVEA BEATS LESTER. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received December 10, 5.5 p.m.) BRISBANE, December 10. The McVea-Lester' fight ended, in the eighth round, the referee, anticipating police interference, declaring McVea the winner. It was cne-sided throughout, the American having the advantage at all points. This match, ono of many arranged by Mr Mclntosh, took place, at; the Brisbane Stadium. Both men bad been training hard for it, and were very fit. Experts generally considered that Sam McVea, who recently easily defeated . Bill Lang, would prove too clever, for Jack Lester, despite the fact that the Canadian was to have an astute general like Tommy Burns,, the world’s ex-champion, in bis corner. Lester is a willing fighter, and is not afraid of punishment, but in science he is not the equal of the sable boxer, and it is not snrprising to learn that tho match was a one-sided one. DAVE SMITH v. CLABBY, A DRAW. • SYDNEY, December 10. The Dave Smith-Clabby fight was drawn, after twenty warm rounds. This match was arranged by Mr H. D. Mclntosh, and took place at the Sydney Stadium. It was generally expected that it would prove a willing go. Jim Clabby, who is one of the newly-arrived Americans, is clever, hut tho New Zealander appears to have been quite his equal.
