MISS BRADDON’S BIRTHDAY
ruo:.: our special correspondent. LOXDOX, October GMiss Elizabeth Braddon, the novelist, who is known in Now Zealand as in all parts of the English-speaking world, was sevontv-four on AVednesday. In private life she is Mrs John Maxwell, the wile of her publisher, and tho mother of three promising sons, one of whom, Mr A\uliam Maxwell, is also a noted novelist. Miss Braddon reads German, Spanish and Italian with equal facility. in earlier days she was a famous horsewoman : now her leisure is devoted to her dogs, her gardening and collecting om silver, curios, and bric-a-brac.
