MAITAI FROM SAN FRANCISCO. About. 5 o’clock this morning the Union Company's mail steamer Maitai arrived in the stream at Wellington from srLn Francisco via Tahiti and Rarotonga. The vessel will bo boarded by the port health officer early this morning, and she will subsequently berth at 7 o clock at No 6 Queen’s wharf. The Maitai has 1509 tons of cargo and 126 passengers for Wellington. She is to sail early to-morrow afternoon for Sydney direct. NGAHEBE short' OP COAL. The Blackball Coal Company’s collier Naahero ran short of coal on her way from Napier to Wellington, and when off Cane Palliser lighthouse yesterday morninf signalled for ’assistance.. The vessel had completed the discharge of her cargo of coal from Greymouth at Napier, and was on her way to Wellington to go on the slip for survey when she. encountered heavy westerly weather, which retarded progress, and ran the coal bunkers nearly empty.
