TERRITORIAL PARADE

The first parade of E Company of Territorials, representing the Brooklyn, Mitchelltown, and Kelburne North area, was held on Tuesday evening under Major Corrigan. There was an attendance of 57, and these were sworn in. In a speech to the men, Major Corrigan explained that the military training was of a very simple nature and in easy progressive stages. Combined with this is a course of physical drill, which should have a most beneficial effect. Tho social side of the work would by no means be neglected. Each month there would bo a social gathering, in which songs, recitations, boxing, and other items according to tho talent of the company, would be requisitioned and developed under a special committee. It was impressed upon the company that it would not in any respect be a "one-man show." Each member would be required to carry out his share of the work efficiently and regularly, so that no one man would have to do two men's work, and tho officers would not he carrying a heavy burthen. Tho work would not in any way bo allowed to interfere with any man’s business or calling, and all would find it easy, light, and plaasant. As instancing tho readiness of tho authorities to promote men from the ranks. Major Corrigan pointed out that most of the officers of the garrison had gone through the ranks, and that in his old company, the Zcalandia Rifles, all tho non-commission-ed officers on the roll at the end of last defence year had been appointed as commissioned officers. The associates with Major Corrigan are—lieut. Steven-Coles as first lieutenant; tho nomination has been approved by Col. Duthie of Sergeant Ward, of the Victoria College Rifles, as 2nd lieutenant; Sergeant Cimino, late of the College Rifles, as acting-eolour-sergc-ant; and Corporal Bradley, late of the Guards, as acting-sergeant. The men were enthusiastic, and fully entered into tbe serious side of the swearing in. Altogether the company has started under excellent auspices.
