MOTOR BY-LAW The city solicitor (Mr J. O'Shea) has drawn up a by-law for the regulation of motor cars and motor traffic in the city on tho lines of the report and recommendations submitted by the council’s motor inspector and the city engineer. The by-law- will como before the ■ City Council at its next meeting. DAYLIGHT SAVING. The Daylight Saving Bill committee recently sent out a circular to tho various candidates for Parliamentary honours throughout' the Dominion, asking it they were in favour of tho Daylight Saving Bill. In every case tho committee has received a favourable reply. No candidate has expressed an opinion against it, in tbo answers so far received by tbe committee, wdiich now bas hopes that the new Parliament will give earnest consideration to this question, with tho ultimate passing of legislation in the direction desired.

EMPLOYEES AND POLLING DAY. Tho Department of Labour notifies that tho provisions of the Shops ami Offices Act in respect to the weekly balfholidby shall, during this w'cok, lie deemed to refer to Thursday afternoon, that being xxdling day. All shop assistants must receive the half-holiday for tho week on that day, and all shopkeepers who are required by tho Shops and Offices Act to close their shops for the weekly half-holiday must do so from 1 o’clock on that day. It is not necessary for any factories to close during working hours on polling day, but all factory employees must be allowed a reasonable time off during working hours for the purpose of recording their votes, such time not to exceed one working hour. No deduction shall 'bo mode from the wages of employees for the time occupied in voting. TRAMWAY MATTERS.

As a result of the extension of the tramway section from Manners street to the post office on the Brooklyn route the cars have been largely used by residents of Aro street, and in consequence Brooklyn residents have frequently been unable to obtain seats in their cars, while tho Aro street cars have carried comparatively few passengers. To obviate this and to equalise the loading on the cars of both routes an overlapping section between Manners street and Stewart Dawson's corner has been established, and will operate as from to-day. This means that passengers from Aro street will be able to travel fifteen chains further than at present*for the same, fare; but tbe concession ticket available between Aro street and Kelburne avenue has been, withdrawn. In tho course of a few days a ten minutes service, instead of the existing -twelve minutes service, will be established on tho Brooklyn line. By the end of the week the Karori and Botanical Gardens cars will run via Charlotte street instead of Aitken street, as heretofore, the new loop being now ready for traffic.
