The trial is taking place at Los Angeles of tho brothers McNamara, tho alleged authors of the explosion at tho “Los Angeles Times” office, which resulted in loss of life and destruction of, the building. James McNamara pleaded guilty to the murder of Charles Haggerty, a mechanist, who was killed in tho explosion. John McNamara pleaded guilty to placing dynamite in the Llewellyn ironworks. A BLOW TO THE LABOUR BANKS. THE PROBABLE SENTENCES. (Received December 3, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, December 2. Tho result of the McNamaras’ trial created an immense sensation throughout tho United States. The Labour organisation prominently defended tho McNamaras, and tho latters’ pleas of guilty came as a severe blow to the Labour ranks. The prosecuting attorney asserts that the McNamaras did not intend to murder tho "Los Angeles Times” employees. Thoir bomb was of insufficient power to destroy tho building, but the gas explosion started a fire, causing the deaths. James McNamara will be sentenced to life imprisonment, and John McNamara to 15 years if the court agrees. Judgment will be on Tuesday next. It is stated that further outrages are likely to occur at Los Angeles owing to tho ill-feeling aroused by the trial.
