YOUTH IN TROUBLE. “ON THE ROAD TO BEING DECLARED AN HABITUAL." SPECIAL TO THE “ TIMES.” JIASTEETON, October 27. John MoConville. about twenty years of age, appeared before Mr L. Q. Reid, S.M., at tbe Magistrate's Court this morning, charged with ■ having used obscene language in a public place, and with having resisted the police. It appeared that accused was under the influence of drink, and Constable Dumphy advised him to go homo. Accused said ho would do so, but instead--1 went to the Town Hall, where an entertainment was being given, and attempted to gain admission on a spurious ticket. He was ejected, and was having a heated discussion with those who had put him out when Constable Dumphy again appeared and advised him to go homo. Accused turned round and used very bad language. Constable Dumphy then arrested accused, who struggled so violently that tho handcuffs had to bo used. Accused struggled and swore all tho way to the-police station, and when in the cell struck Sergeant Miller twice in the face. I

Mr Beid, to accused ;Tou have a formidable list of convictions against yon fifteen charges in two years—and you aro on the right road to being declared an habitual criminal. Accused'was fined £3 and costs on the first charge, and .£1 on the second charge, the alternative to be one month's imprisonment in each case, the sentences to be concurrent. Ah application for time in which to pay the fino was refused.
