MOUNT LYELL STRIKE
UNION THREATENS TO CALL OUT ENGINE-DRIVERS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received October 13, 1.20 a.m.) MELBOURNE, October 12. The conference of tho Mount Lyell directors and the officers of the union was abortive. It lasted only an hour. Tho reinstatement of White is still tho stumbling-block. The union threatens to call put the engine-drivers and allow tho water to flood the mine. Tho manager says that this cannot seriously injure tho mine. AN EXODUS OF MINERS. HOBART, October 12. It is stated that tho union does not intend to issue further provision coupons at Mount Lyell. Thero is a great exodus of miners from the district, and homes havo been sold for next to nothing. an Appeal to Newcastle miners. SYDNEY, .October 12. Mr Watson, a member of tho Tasmanian Legislature Assembly is visiting Newcastle on behalf of the Mount Lyell miners. It is understood that the miners' Delegate Board has promised support for the strikers.
