The Poherua will not proceed to Napier •as previously intended, but will leave WeiJ liugton at 5 p.m. .to-day for Greymouth to load again ior Wellington. The Blackball Company’s collier Ngatoro is duo back at Wellington nest Monday with a full load of coal for this port. Tho Ngahero was discharging at Auckland yesterday. The* coastal steamer Wairau left Karamea at 12.3/ p.m, yesterday with a load of timber lor Wellington. The Navua arrived at Wellington last evening and berthed at No. 16 Jervois quay, to discharge 300 tons of cargo. Tho \essei is to sail at noon to-day for Westport and Auckland. Cargo steamers leaving New York are beginning to add outports to their list of ports of discharge in Now Zealand. The Den of Airlio will discharge also at Napier, the Star of Scotland will discharge at Bluff, and a U.S. and A liuer is to add Thnaru to the usual itinerary. Captain ‘White succeeded Captain Gilbertson yesterday as master of the schooner Falcon.

The scow Ngaru sailed from Karamea on Wednesday with a load of timber for Blenheim. The ShaSv. Savill and Albion liner Pakehn en route from London to Dunedin and Lyttelton, via Sydney, resumed her /voyage from Capetown last Tuesday evening. The Lrltelton dredge Manchester is completing the dredging of the berth at the western half of No. 7 jetty at Lyttelton, generally termed the ocean steamers’ wharf. Tho berth, which has been extended. will shortly be open for use. Tho eastern side of tho wharf, which is to be altered and re-decked, is still in use for shipping, tho work of relaying beams and decking between the recently completed /portion is being carried out. The Walteiuata is to load at Oamaru about next Friday, at Bluff on the 21at instant, and at Timaru on the 25th and 26th for Napier, Gisborne, and Auckland. Tho new Shaw Savill and Albion liner Zealandic, which is to leave Liverpool on tho 28th instant for New Zealand ports, will take a large number of immigrants to Australia on route. . , _ _ It is probable that the Karon, coal laden from Newcastle will call at Lyttelton before Wellington. _ , The Kittawa. timber laden for Lyttelton, and tho Flora, loaded for Bluff and Dunedin were barbound at Greymouth yesterday. . Tho Mapounka arrived off the . Westport bar at 12.25 p.m. from Wellington, via ports, but was unable to enter that port owing to a heavy sea on the bar. The Maitai is to leave Wellington this afternoon for Lyttelton to dock early tomorrow morning at tho latter port.

Hie Maitai. which arrived at Wellington last evening from San Francisco via the islands included in her 1 Customs list 5732 cases of apples, 700 cases of pears, 180 sacks of cocoamite, 3632 cases of bananas. - FALCON'S ROUGH EXPERIENCE. The Wellington-owned schooner Falcon, which berthed at Wellington yesterday m load general cargo for Hatelock, had a startling experience on her recent trip from Gisborne to Havelock. Captain Gilbertson stated tha.t. tho vessel ran into Uw. Irocsvy southerly wnich caused fo much delay to *.*. roing three weeks ago. The Falconc/glity miles south, or Gisoornc when uno met 'the gale. The little vesscj was driven ly/ck a distance of 180 miles. She shipped joiue heavy seas, which carried away <t chain plate and gave the craw «•* furious time. The smiting boards were broiwu, and the sand ballast moved until at one time the schooner was dangerously listed. When the weather Improved the Falcon fetched up off tao coast' about fourteen miles north of East Cape.

MAITAI FROM SAN FRANCISCO. The R.M.S. Maitai arrived back at Wellington from San Francisco via Papeete and Rarotonga at 4.15 yesterday afternoon. After leaving Wellington on August 25th strong head winds and heavy head sea were experienced to Rarotonga, whore she arrived on tho afternoon of the 30th. After U stay of a few hours tho vessel proceeded on the voyage to Papeete, and arrived at that port p. t daylight on September 2nd She departed Again early on the 3rd, and experienced fine weather and smooth sea till nctring ban Francisco, when a thick, fog delayed arrival at that port-, the ship eventually anchoring in the bay at 2.5 J p.m. on the 14th. After loading a largd cargo and embarking a number of passengers, the return trip was commenced-at 11.45 a.m. on September 20th. Pino weather and- a smooth sea were experienced for three days alter departure, and then, a heavy gale was met, which contir.ued for forty-eight hours and greatly delayed the, ship. For the remainder of the passage to Papeete moderate seas and fresh variable winds were experienced, arrival being made at Papeete at noon on the 2nd iufit. The voyage was resumed on tho 3rd, and after a smooth passage the Maitai reached Rarotonga at 7 a.m. on the sth. After shipping a quantity of fruit the vessel sailed again at 5 p.m, tho same : day. Moderately fine weather was experienced until three days out. when a heavy south-east galo was encountered, which con- , tinuod for forty-eight hours, tho ship’s progress being delayed in consequence. After the gale abated fine weather and a smooth sea were ’experienced until arrival. The Maitai has 1540 tons to land, 400 tons of which is for Australian ports.
