BIRTH-RATEI LOWEST ON RECORD

MELBOURNE, October 11
The number of marriages in Victoria last year was the highest on record. The birth-rate was 34.20 per thousand, which is the lowest on record. The death-rate shows a decrease of 1.8 per thousand since 1901.
The vital statistics of Victoria for 1909 were: —Births 31,549, average per thousand 34.57: marriages 9431, average per thousand 7.314; deaths 14,436, average per thousand 11.24.
