BIG PUBLIC RECEPTION
Dominion Day has not yet reached the popularity it will sonic time enjoy as the national day of Xew Zealand, in four years it has travelled a little towards that position, as the enthusiastic celebrations yesterday in the capital and other centres demonstrated. Wellington, though it wont on with most of its business, put on a festival appearance, and many bundled.-; of workers were able to enjoy a holiday. The public buildings looked bright with flags and streamers, and the sliijis in port paid a similar tribute in bunting to the notable day. Heavy rain over night was succeeded by a somewhat threatening morning, but the weather cleared up, and the openair celebrations came off with complete success, the cadet review at Newtown Bark being attended by several thousands, who were rewarded with a pleasing spectacle which should make them, proud of the smartness of tho schoolboy soldiers, and the thoroughness of the training they undergo. The flag was saluted at many of the public schools, and the day ended with a notably fine gathering in tho Town Hall, when the national value of tho da3 r was suitably impressed upon one of the biggest assemblages evei seen in tho building.
