RECORD ENTRIES
NEW ZEALAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY. ■ Tho entries received last night by tho New Zealand Competitions Society for tho festival to be held next month constitute a record for the Dominion. Fifteen hundred entries are in hand, and telegraphic advices informed tho secretary of about 200 more from various parts of New Zealand. lor tho choirs’ competition (forty pertormers each) eight have entered, five from Wellington and one each from Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. In tho general entries the largest number are from Wellington province, and next comes Auckland anti then Dunedin and Christchurch. Napier and Wanganui are also well represented. Tho ei'ditr-gninea piano prize for tho best stdo ‘uianist has attracted very many entrants, and there, is every prospect of keen competition for this valuable award. In the elocution and vocal sections of every class thero has been a very liberal response. Tt is estimated that there will be at least IDOO visiting competitors. There is every likelihood that the competitions will "have (o be extended over thirteen days, instead of ten. ns originally intended. with tbo utilisation of both the Town TEall and tho Concert Chamber throughout tho festival.
