HIGH-PRICED GRASS SEED
It was thought last autumn would see the high-water mark of grass seed value, but thcro is every indication a that there will yet be a considerable increase in price for the majority of grass and clover seed*?. From reports to hand it appears that the European and American grass seed harvests have been below the average, while the demand has been of an expanding nature. It is probable that an extension of spring sowing will tako place this year in the South Island, iiartly by reason of the ravages of the 'grass grub. Some idea of the present shortage may bo gained from the fact that the best lines of white clover are at present worth ,£l5O a ton wholesale in New Zealand.
In the United States tiinothj' seed has been selling at over 103 per cent, above its normal price.
Tho present shortage of New Zealand cocksfoot will be somewhat made up by the reshipment to Now Zealand of lines exported to Britain from the Dominion two seasons ago.—‘'Agricultural Journal."
